The photo below captures a disturbing trend that is beginning to affect wildlife in the US. Animals that were formerly self-sufficient are now showing signs of belonging to the Democrat Party, as they have apparently learned to just sit and wait for the government to step in and provide for their care and sustenance.

You did a nice job bringing in several of your democratic hot button issues. Now I have a question for you: What have the democrats done to solve any of these problems. They prefer to only point out problems instead of actually solving them. When they do actually propose a solution (which is rare) they only make the situation worse.
Also, do you really think that punishing the successful in our society by taking away the profits from their hard work and giving it to people who are too lazy or too unmotivated to work will solve any problems? This will never solve anything.
Why do you think that it should be the government’s responsibility to solve all the problems that people have. The Constitution does not say it is the governments job to do this. So, where does this mistaken understanding come from?

Are you saying Jesus would not help kids without insurance or seniors live with dignity? Have you ever read the Bible? If you want to talk legally, instead of morally, Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution gives Congress the right to levy taxes to, among other things, provide for the common defense and the general welfare…If Congress has the right to fund the military, it has the right to help uninsured kids have health care, and seniors not have to choose between paying their drug bill and paying their electric bill. What does doing that have to do with giving money to people too lazy to work? You sound way too greedy and selfish to be someone who calls himself a Christian.

What you are describing is socialism, plain & simple. Yes, I agree that Jesus would have taken care of the truely needy people. No problem with that whatsoever. I also believe that failure for them to properly plan (older people and parents who won’t properly provide for their children) does not constitute an emergency on my part. You talk about “provide for the general welfare”. Well, giving people handouts hardly contributes to their actual welfare. It only encourages further mooching off the working people and a perpetuation of a broken system.
Tom doesn’t need anyone to stand up for him, but you call him greedy & selfish. Ha! I know Tom & he’s anything but that.

Don’t be ridiculous. That is not what I am saying at all. Christians are called to meet the physical needs of those who are suffering. The government is not called to do that. When the government tries to do that we get what we now have. The more the government tries to do, the more problems we have. If the government would stick to the powers it has been granted in the Constitution we would be much better off. Unfortunately, we have people who believe the Constitution is a “living document” and they then try to read into it whatever they want it to mean.
As far as Article 1 Section 8, it says:
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

Please explain what meaning you place on the “general welfare” clause. It seems that you saying it should apply to social programs but the context of Article 1, Section 8 does not lend itself to that meaning.
Our government can only function and survive as long as we are a “moral” people. It is my contention to you that we are no longer a “moral” people. It is only a matter of time until it fails unless we bring it back into line with its original functions. If we could remove the government from our daily lives, then most (if not all) of our problems would be solved by our people.
My challenge to you is to stop expecting the government to be the one who solves all the problems. Cut them out of the loop and find local solutions. We should all be doing that on a daily basis. God help us to do so!

no, i do not think that is exactly the definition of socialism. Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. Mr. Lovell was talking about programs that would help those people who are less fortunate, not everyone in the society. The socialist practice of “distribution of goods” is an idea that incorporates the ENTIRE society. Please do not akin the belief of progressivism to socialistic beliefs, it is much further to the left of the political spectrum than the Democrats fall, just as fascism is much futher to the right than the Republicans are.
As to Tom who said that the Democrats havnt been doing anything in the way of solving problems, I might point out that its been slightly difficult to get anything passed with a Repbublican majority for most of the 90s up until the 06 midterms, and then with a Republican President for the remaining two years who refuses to listen to Congress.
I honestly dont remember this many problems in the Clinton administration about the economny, so as far as getting anything done, I think he set a wonderful tone.

I searched the Bible for “Poverty” and “Poor”. It came up with quite a bit less than 2000 verses and think that is a bit hyperbolic. I did not come across anything that suggested that “let’s spread the wealth around” through taxation and political redistribution. Both of these are enforced through the threat of jail time and ultimately by the gun in the hands of our fine police officers coming to take you away if you just happen to believe “what is yours is yours and what is mine is mine”. Personally, I am unapologetic about believing that. The verses that I reviewed suggested that it was noble to voluntarily share your excess with those of less fortune. Also, many of the verses that I reviewed suggested that poverty would be the result of irresponsibility.
I also happened to look up two other verses that are never mentioned by thinkers of this ilk.

I am fed up with the guilt generators appealing to base emotions to gain political power. The New Testament is filled with warnings against legalism while these political whores distort the Bible. They insinuate that Jesus wants us to make more laws to “let’s spread the wealth around”. Spreading the wealth is noble. But, it is your responsibility and is my responsibility out of the volition of our “new birth”. Paul hated legalism and implied that Jesus did too.

The verse you quote is an end-times prophesy in which the anti-christ will force people to receive his mark in order to buy or sell things (food, clothing, etc.). Anyone who does not receive the mark will be persecuted and find it very hard to live their daily lives.
