Is Evolution Science Or Religion?

Belief in evolutionary theory is a matter of sheer faith. And dogmatic belief in any naturalistic theory is no more “scientific” than any other kind of religious faith.

This quote is from a short article published by Pulpit Magazine. Click here to read the article. It makes a strong case for the fact that evolution is, in fact, a religion. This is a case I have seen others make for some time. It is still a relevant point though because of the damage this religion of evolution has done to our world.

What do you think? Agree or disagree?

That’s one of the stupidest things that creationists like to say, and it’s depressing that there are so many morons out there who think that it’s a suggestion worth repeating or taking seriously.

    Dan,

Please explain why you think it is stupid. Please enlighten us morons who are in obvious need of the knowledge you possess.

What enlightenment is needed? Just use your common sense – you don’t hear anyone taking the position that psychology is religion, do you? Archeology? Forensics? Cosmology? Would you take them seriously if they did argue those things?

Why then would you take them seriously when referring to evolutionary biology?

Hmmm….I can speak as a member of the Psychology contingent. We are not accused of being a religion primarily because we don’t offer a theory on how man came into existence and how the world was generated. Evolution does.

    Dan,

Common sense? What makes more sense….Darwinian evolution (one kind changing into a completely different kind) or creationism (everything was created for a purpose by a Creator)? If the Darwinian theory evolution were true then we would find transitional fossils but there are none. Would that not be common sense?

There is no evidence that any kind has changed over time into a different kind (macro evolution or Darwinian evolution). We have seen changes within a kind (micro evolution or speciation). The two are not the same. Which one are you defending?

I see from your site that you have a science background. As such, you will be much more knowledgeable than me in those areas. But I have a question for you, is it better to trust in our own knowledge or the One who created everything? As for me, I will trust Him. He has all the answers because He created it all. Open your heart to Him and you will never be sorry.

What makes more sense? How about one kind of lizard turning into a completely other type of lizard, with a completely new mechanism of digesting food: Still just a lizard, sure, but another kind of lizard. And that’s just in a few generations. Imagine what can happen in 500,000 generations (less than a million years)… or 500,000,000 years ….

Yes, it seems common sense that that could work. Not to mention there’s the traces of that working.

Also, yes, macroevolution and microevolution are not the same. Interestingly, if you’re familiar with the fossil record, genetics, embryology, ecology, and physiology, there’s MORE evidence for macroevolution. Take “Darwin’s finches” for example – a very nice example of speciation (the foundation of macroevolution). But I take issue with the use of the word “macroevolution” because it confuses people who think that biology as a field of study stopped with Darwin. Try looking up “allopatric speciation,” “cladogenesis,” and “biogeography” for more info, since you appear to not understand those concepts, nor the empirical evidence behind them.

    Dan,

I don’t dispute that the lizard you cite may have gone through the changes you mention. But it is important to remember that it started out as a lizard, while it was changing it was a lizard, and when the changes were complete it was still a lizard. This is an example of speciation not evolution. No matter how many generations or how many changes the lizards go through they will always remain lizards. That is the point.

I don’t claim to be a biology expert. I know only that the God of the universe gave us certain information through the bible and through our observation and discovery (science). Anything that conflicts with what He has told us directly or indirectly must be understood to be incorrect. It can be no other way.

So you’re parroting the standard creationist lie, and blaming biologists because you don’t understand how speciation relates to evolution?

Don’t blame biologists for your ignorance. That is the point.

First, I have not blamed biologists (or scientists in any field) for anything. I am greatful for the advances made in all scientific fields that allow us to live better lives. The thing is that we must have a correct understanding of these advances. The advances are simply our gaining a better understanding of how God’s creation works.

Please explain the creationist lie of which you speak. At what point does the lizard in question cease to be a lizard. Granted that it may be a different kind of lizard but a lizard it remains.

For the record, I am a young earth creationist. I don’t think that is a surprise to you or anyone else who reads this blog.

Let’s be honest here, shall we? As a young earth creationist, I think it’s fair to assume that you think that geology, biology, and astronomy, among other fields, all represent a vast conspiracy.

How is that a correct understanding of scientific advances?

For instance, the “a lizard is still a lizard” bit is a feat of ignorance. Yes, a lizard is still a lizard, but it’s a different type of lizard. At some point, say, when a lizard lost its limbs and became a snake, I imagine you must say that it’s still a reptile. Or how fossils describe the evolution of birds and mammals – they’re just another type of vertebrate, right? With the lizard example, you have both speciation and extinction of lizard species. Ecological change, the fundamentals of macroevolution, the whole lot, can be seen in just this one example.

Or just comparing the development of H. sapiens, as documented by the fossil remains of no less than a dozen separate species over the past 6 million years (a tiny blip in geological time). Behaviorally, physiologically, anatomically, and genetically, we’re still just apes, albeit a different kind of ape.

At what point will you give up the denialism and face facts?

I have not been dishonest in any way. Your implication that I have in unwarrented. I have not spoken of, nor do I believe in, some “vast conspiracy”. Please do not project your false assumptions on me.

Now for what i do believe. I believe that creationists and evolutionists have the same data. I believe they interpret this data differently because of their differing presuppositions. It is these presuppositions that need to be addressed. Creationists believe that God created all that there is so when they look at the data they filter the data through that presupposition. Evolutionists believe that all that is was created through natural causes so they filter the data through their presupposition. Can we agree on these assertions? I think so far we can. So, as I said before, we need to examine the presuppositions.

As a creationist I can go to the Bible and see that “In the beginning, God created” all that is. I have an understanding for the origin of everything. Evolution does not address the origin question it only addresses the development issue. Evolutionists still have to answer the question as to where did the materials come from for the natural processes to use. Have they always existed? I don’t think this is feasible and I think (correct me if I am wrong) that modern science teaches that there was a definite beginning. If this is so, evolutionists have a problem.

Would you agree that something has to have existed eternally in the past? By this, I mean that since there is something in existence now that we can then know that there has always been something in existence. After all, something can not come from nothing so if there was ever a time when absolutely nothing existed then nothing would exist today. If so, then the question becomes “What has eternally existed?” As Christians, we have an answer for that question. We believe that the thing that has always existed is God? How would evolutionists answer this question? How does how they answer this question not require faith? And since faith is required, would that not be one of the qualifying factors a to their answer being part of their religion?

Just some thoughts I had. I would be interested to hear your responses. BTW, thank you for taking time to interact with me on this topic. It helps me to be able to better articulate my position when I am challenged on them.

Can any evolutionist explain where the Big Bang came from? Of course, you can’t. Where you there? No. So how can you know what happened. You can’t. The Big Bang never happened. Want proof. How about it defies the laws of physics. You guys say it came from nothing. Only nothing can create nothing. Something has to exist forever. That would be God. The dot showed up, it started to spin for no reason (remember nothing else existed so a dot would not start spinning). It would do nothing forever. Where did the oxygen come from to make the fire that created everything? Did you know the bang exploded faster than light? (That is scientifically impossible). They have the temperature of 1.8 trillion degrees F. WOW and yet there is no evidence ever of the temperature. Scientists made it up. This is how they make their stupid religion of evolution. The Bible makes it clear “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” -Romans 1:22. Evolution is a fairy tale it never happened. Evolution is the only fairy tale that changes daily. Harry Potter never changes but evolution does. Every day evolution evolves into a stupider fairy tale. There are no contradictions in Harry Potter but all contradictions in evolution. Evolutionists have their god of “”Time”. The universe started from 6,000 years old then went to 10,000 then to 5 billion then to 8 billion then to 12 billion to 13.7 billion to 15 billion then to 18 billion then to 20 billion and next year it will be 44 trillion years old!!!!!!!!! This is stupid there is no god of “Time”. There is only God and every single electron belongs to him. He is eternal. He does not live in time. He can change from God to man to create Jesus Christ but we can’t do that. Admit your sins to Jesus. God bless.

Hello there, Happy April Fool’s Day!

A man is in a bar and falling off his stool every couple of minutes. He is obviously drunk. So the bartender says to another man in the bar: “Why don’t you be a good Samaritan and take him home.”
The man takes the drunk out the door and to his car and he stumbles at least ten times. They drive along and the drunk points out his house to the man. He stops the car and the drunk stumbles up the steps to his house with the man.
The drunk’s wife greets them at the door: “Why, thank you for bringing him home for me, but where’s his wheel chair?”

    Happy April Fool’s Day!
