3. Palin graduated in 1987 from the University of Idaho with a degree in journalism. She worked briefly as a sports reporter in Anchorage.

4. She refers to her husband, Todd, as the “First Dude.” He’s worked as a commercial fisherman and as a production operator on the North Slope for BP. He enjoys snowmobiling and has won the Tesoro Iron Dog, billed as the world’s longest snowmobile race, four times.

5. Palin and her husband have five children, Bristol, Piper, Track, Willow, and Trig. Trig, born in 2008, has been diagnosed with Down syndrome. Her son Track joined the army in 2007.

Is McCain out of his mind? What happened to “experience counts”?

  2. This will restore confidence in McCain from those of us that weren’t sure where his commitments really lie.

  3. reggie henderson says:

As a single father, I know what it takes to take care of a child. If one parent of young children is going to be traveling a lot, the other should be stay-at-home. But… if you have many children, and then one of them is an infant with Down’s syndrome. Then even having one of the two parents away for extended travel is irresponsible in my opinion.

  4. l3rucewayne says:

That seems to be the new attack on McCain, that he picked someone with a kid with Down’s syndrome. 4 points: McCain offered the job, he didn’t force it on her, and she accepted. Second, even if she didn’t, being a governer is also a demanding job. Third, I would imagine that being a vice president affords one some privilages that could make it easier to do a good job raisng children than being a governer. And fourth, I have the feeling that the Palin family, particularly stay at home dad Mr. Palin, is quite capable of raising their family while Palin helps the country in her position as vice president.

  5. Brian says:

I like the post, I disagree with the attack that she doesn’t have experience. Being governor requires more executive experience than being a senator ever would. That’s something Americans may not think about all the time but we do care about it, hence why we haven’t elected a senator to the white house since JFK and this time is a fluke because we don’t have a choice. Except with McCain atleast it’s a little closer.

  6. Crystal says:

Absolutely. She’s the CEO of Alaska! She’s got the goods. To the concern that she won’t have time to be a good parent? That’s irrelevant in this case. She’s being called to serve the greatest country in the world, I think it’ll be ok if her children get the excellent childcare that will obviously be provided to her.

  7. Larry says:

GAP closed. With a leaning toward Obama, and the announcement of GOP VP, this is one voter that has gone to Obama and will not come back

  8. MikeysMom says:

Are you kidding me? This lady is a governor and barely that. She has NO political experience, and probably doesn’t even have time to read up on foreign policies much less the state of the economy. McCain has lost his mind. Thank goodness at least most people will vote for Obama now. Do you know how many people in congress and the senate he has pissed off by this choice? He will surely lose.

  9. Tom says:

Do you realize that Palin has more executive experience than Obama does. In a sense, you could easily say that she is more qualified to be President than he is.

Obama has served in the State Senate and then spent 144 days (I think that is the right number) in the US Senate before running beginning his campaign. That’s right…I said DAYS. Obama is a joke that the democrats are trying to perpetrate on our country.

The more I find out about Palin the more I like her. I know she has some political downsides too but until more information comes out she seems to be a solid pick. James Dobson seems to agree. Click here to see what he says.

  10. Tom says:

Sorry to hear that but i suspect that you were already in the Obama camp before the announcement of Palin as McCain’s VP.

  11. Dick says:

  12. MikeysMom says:

Hate to tell ya Tom, but it doesn’t matter who she is it’s how he went about making his decision. It’s all but moot at this point. He messed up, big time. His OWN constituents are still suffering the aftershock and mumbling. He is in serious trouble with some of his long time supporters, I’ll wager that.

There were SO many others even female candidates that would have and SHOULD have been chosen. The only ones who will vote for him now are folks who don’t read the paper, watch TV or follow politics. They’ll just go in and vote for a name that looks good on paper or because they consider themselves ‘Republican’. Or yeah, like Dick here, because ‘she’s hot’. *snorts of derision can be heard far and wide*

  13. batguano101 says:

    Palin is a humdinger.

What a breath of fresh air to see a woman candidate who is female.

The lies and blackmail of lesbians really get old in the body politic.

Sarah Palin – a breath of fresh air indeed! I am a woman and will vote for her not just because she is a woman but because I believe that she has the guts and the smarts to shake up some Washington “empty suits”. And, there are plenty of them!

Go Saraaaaaah! And do not worry about the rhetoric that you are not ready to be “Commander in Chief”…. Obama is running for that position and does not have any executive experience or your guts to cross partylines. He accuses Senator McCain for having voted 95% of the time with the Republicans but what Obama is not telling us is that he has voted 97% of the time with his buddies the Democrats.

Obama speaks of all these “miracles” that he will perform once elected but he has failed – for a year now – to tell us how he is going to pay for it! I do not know how on earth he will reduce taxes for 95% of Americans as he promises and pay for the rest of his “miracle change” whithout blowing up the national deficit to quadrillions!!! All his speeches (rhetoric) sure sound impressive however he is not telling us something that we have never heard before by every politician who rans for President! Have you not heard any candidate in the past not promising good schools, good roads, more money in your pocket, less crime on the streets? Hey, we have heard it before!

Do not be afraid of the Washington status quo Sarah Palin! They will attack you plenty but that is because they are worried that you will shake things up! Trust me, they are not really worried about what will happen to the country if you have to become Commander in Chief should something tragic happen… 90% of Washingtom politicians do not even know what the Truman Doctrine was – let alone being experts for example in Eastern European geopolitical issues! Is anybody trying to tell us that all previous Presidents had a degree in Political Science or Foreign Relations? Yeah sure…I am going to laugh!

We need a hands on “outsider” to shake up Washington. The National Security and safety of our country first requires a real “patriot” in office with great judgement, who will surround herself with an excellent team. Sarah Palin is a true patriot, she has demonstrated excellent judgement during her career, and she has the guts to bring real change!!!!!!

  16. Crystal says:

Ok, you neighsayers do realize that she has intimate knowledge of Soviet/US relations because of her post in Alaska,, right? You do realize that the tension between the US and the Soviets is pretty high right now… right?
She has no foriegn experience? Have you taken leave or your senses? She has what we need right now.

  17. sarah johnson says:

Alaska is the largest state at 656,424 sq mi, and has the 47th largest populations at 683,478 (smaller than the city of San Jose, California – 929,936).
It’s largest city is Anchorage with a population of 359,180 in its metro (about the size of Anaheim, California – 334,425).
She approved the building of a bridge so people wouldn’t have to rely on the ferry when the federal government was going to pay for it. But when she discovered that the government couldn’t give enough money and Alaska was going to have to help pay for it she decided not to build the bridge. Congress wanted to use some of the money to help hurricane katrina and their congressman said he’d quite if Alaska didn’t get the money.
So they didn’t build the bridge, but she still accepted 200 million dollars from the government and instead used it for whatever she wanted. So she gave each citizen $1200 dollars when gas prices went up. No wonder she has high approval ratings. In California, 200 million would be less than $5 a person.
She’s currently being investigated because she fired someone who wouldn’t fire her brother-in-law, after he was getting divorced from her sister.
She’s pro drilling in Alaska because Alaska made a deal with the oil companies, when they first started drilling for oil, that every citizen of Alaska would get a percentage of the oil revenue. And her husband works for the oil company.
She filed a lawsuit to stop the listing of Polar Bears as endangered species because it would hurt oil and gas development in the bears’ habitat off Alaska’s northern and northwestern coasts.
She also doesn’t believe the global warm is caused by human activity.
She was born in Idaho, but as an infant moved to Alaska and has been there ever since except to go to school. She graduated in 1987 from the University of Idaho with a degree in journalism, and married her high school boyfriend. She didn’t get a US passport until 2007, the first time she left the country, at the age of 43.
She gave birth to a down syndrome baby at the age of 43, her 5th child, and went back to work 3 days after giving birth. There is a 1 in 30 chance of having a down syndrome baby at the age of 43. That’s irresponsible family planning, and who is raising her children when she’ll be off campaigning and in the white house?

  18. Denise says:

I like Hillary and respect her. She has devoted her life to public service and been devoted to what she believes in. Contrast McCain’s VP pick, Sarah Palin, I won’t waste time repeating what’s already been written here, I’m sure it’s only the tip of the iceberg, and if McCain’s crowd wasn’t capable of vetting her properly, I’m sure she’ll be vetted properly now.

I turned off the porn filters on google and did a quick image search for “sarah palin” Found a great pic of the conservative right wing “hockey mom” bent over wearing a thong and knee high socks. Fetching. Does McCain know he selected her for VP and not head waitress at Hooters? After seeing this, I have to say, this woman obviously hasn’t been preparing for this type of leadership role and it’s insulting to think that women would dismiss all the hard work that Hillary did and swap her out for a woman who seems to all but accidently landed on the ticket.

  19. Denise says:

One of several links to self proclaimed “hockey mom”, Sarah Heath Palin:

  20. MikeysMom says:

Hahahaha… after the story today I have to say…Too Much Drama for this Momma! What a joke. She will withdraw soon.

  21. Doug says:

Some things to add to the list of “things you didn’t know about Palin”
    1. Her 17year old daughter is pregnant.
    2. The father of the baby is an 18 year old self-confessed “f……’in redneck” (check out his myspace page before they take it down!).
    3. She and her husband were once members of the Alaska Independance Party which works for Alaska independance from the US.
4…….. We are holding our breath- there is so much more fun facts to come!

  22. Laura says:

Sarah Palin got knocked up and eloped with her husband.
Her daughter got knocked up. Family values??? Abstinence education sure didn’t work in their family. Definitely not a role model for our girls.

Learn about the job she did as mayor. Learn about what she did as governor.

  23. batguano101 says:

You have something against shotgun marriages?

Just to take the contrary position:

    Palin did get married.
    She did marry a male.

Hillary is a liar, tried to lie her way into office, is trying to lie her way into position for a run in the future at the expense of her party, has less experience than any candidate, including Palin (being a wife of a president does not make you experienced).

Place Hillary on moral issues beside anyone and you make that other look like a saint.

So, compared to Hillary Clinton, Palin is a super role model for girls.

  24. anna sorenson says:

No foreign policy experience. Do you get it by osmosis…being next to Russia. Commander in Chief of the National Guard…read the interview with the head guy in Alaska….she doesn’t make the decisions, Washington DC does. By all of the pro palin diatribe about executive experience…she then has more than McCain. I live in Alaska. Her administration was staffed with cronies from her inner circle, totally disorganized, during the last special session she wasn’t even in Juneau 7 days….she doesn’t care about policy. In press conferences with the news, she is always surrounded by her staff, and she doesn’t answer the questions, her staff does because she is not a policy person. She has always used her position to hurt people who disagree with her, but hey, look at Dick Cheney divulging the name of a undercover operative. Expect more of the same from the cult of Palin.

  25. anna sorenson says:

PS. I am considering voting for Bob Barr, at least he believes in the constitution.

  26. Jessica says:

Palin is a hypocrite who says abstonence is the only form of birth control she supports but has a teenage pregnant daughter who will most likely be supported by the governers salary and will have no clue as to what a typical single mother has to endure in life. I think it is pathetic that she is exploiting her own daughter and leading other teens to believe that unwed teen pregnancy’s will have a fairytail ending like her daughters. What a terrible example to set for this nation of immpressionable children whom she is supposed to be setting an example for.

  27. Natasha says:

Governor Palin – A new star in politics is born!!

Appropriate finale for last night’s debate:

A USA Military History (Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture)

    God Bless America!

    McCain for President 2008!
    Palin for President 2012!

  28. Natasha says:

Congratulations Governor Palin! You have warmed our hearts with your honesty and humble straight talk! This is exactly what our country needs!!

Keep smiling, you are on your way, America’s Princess !!

America salutes you and Senator McCain!!

Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks

    God Bless America!
