ABOUT ME

There is an old saying that goes something like this: you should never discuss religion, politics, or sex in polite company. Now, I have never been one to kiss and tell so no problem there but as for the others…well those are my two favorite things to talk about. Most (not all) people are somewhat guarded when it comes to what they will say and how they will say it so finding out what they really think about something can be difficult. This is not the case with politics and religion because most are very passionate about their beliefs in these areas. Once you have determined where the persons stands on religious and political issues you have a good understanding of how that person thinks about just about anything.

I live in a small town in northeast Tennessee. I attend a small Southern Baptist Church where I serve as a Sunday School teacher and on the Church Council. I also teach other discipleship classes as the opportunities arise. I was ordained as a Deacon at a previous church. I don’t serve as Deacon at my current church although I am still qualified to do so should I be nominated and desire to do so. I am an accountant by trade but my calling is discipleship. This includes not only learning what the Bible says but also how to properly apply it to our lives. Without this application our knowledge is useless. I believe I have the spiritual gifts of teaching, discernment, and to a lessor extent administration.

———————-UPDATE August 10, 2007————————–

On Sunday August 5, 2007 I was elected to serve as a Deacon in my church. I had been ordained and served in this role at a previous church. I pray the LORD will give me the necessary skills to fulfill my duties.

I just came on board at wordpress a couple of weeks ago but I’d like to know how the “Deaconship” is going? I read your testimony…marvelous!… and relate to your overpowering conviction…the singing does that to me periodically and I have been saved for years. It seems to be because my heart grieves for “the world”… Now I am going to read more of what you share! btw, I came here via your “Islam-A Religion of Peace?” post. Excellent!

    Hi Wordforit,

We had our first meeting of the new church year last week. We reorganized and elected a chairman, vice chairmen, and recording secretary. We then discussed a couple of the ministries of the church. I will be receiving the list of my families I am responsible for at the next meeting as well as some other materials I requested. I think it will be interesting to look back 3 years from now and see how I have grown and how God has changed our deacon ministry.

I read your comment on SBCImpact requesting more materials from Cyle regarding Elders. I was going to recommend you check out the 9Marks Ministry website but I see you have a link to Capitol HIll Baptist on your blog so you probably are already familiar with 9Marks. If you go through the 9Marks audio archives they have some good discussion interviews (MP3s) on the topic of Elders as well. If you don’t find them I’m sure they”d be glad to ship you some CDs with the interviews.

May God Bless your ministry efforts.

    Go VOLS–beat them Dawgs.

    Hi Mark,

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

Yes, I like Dever and have listened to some of his teachings on Elders already. Actually, it was there that really started the change of my opinion on the subject of elders.

PS…it is nice to hear from another Vols fan.

Perusing through your blog, I wonder if you would be interested in a petition I’ve started out of sheer exasperation with liberal Republicans. As a Reagan Conservative, I started a petition entitled: WE DEMAND TRUE CONSERVATIVE LEADERSHIP.

Take a look and if you agree, please sign it and pass it on. We conservatives can make a difference.

    Hi Adam,

Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to check things out and to leave comments when you feel the desire to do so.

I am about 2 hours east of Knoxville. I get down to Knoxville ever so often to take in a Vols football or basketball game.
